If the discipline can be done right now by sleeping at the doggie kennel , it will be better than to sleep in prisons when he messed with the law in future. House arrest is better uncle sam arresting him wherehe will be behind bars.

Why let the child get to that point and then have to start doing something about it?

Agreed. I repped the post, even though I note that the Jets aren't going anywhere that I can see this season.

Good parenting all around. Kudos to them. I remember my daughter's sleeping in the shed out back of our house. They couldn't handle all moms rules and wanted more freedom. They found out there's me mom and God, in that order. They lasted2 nights before they came around.

I think those parents are good for punishing their son

The only argument against this is if he was in a Northern state during the height of winter. Otherwise since he has access to sanitary plumbing, I can't really find fault with this.

I give the parents credit for standing up and punishing the teen. They actually did something rather than just run their mouths.

Who says he's sleeping in the tent? He could be wandering around causing all sorts of problems.

Everyone who keeps saying it's not punishment, it's fun, you don't know the kid. What is fun for you is not fun for everyone else. This kid might absolutely HATE being outside. If he's like a lot of kids today, being outside in that tent means no computer, no internet, no gaming, no electricity, nothing. What does he have? A sleeping bag, a flashlight...and what?

Nothing. (Surely they took his phone away, too.)

Plus, while at first it might seem fun, and "haha, this is not punishment", after a few days, the novelty starts to wear off. Everyone else is inside, being a family, you're outside in a tent...like a dog in a dog house. It's going to start working on that kid's mind.

What he has to do is think or read. Or he could write. Any one of those activities is very productive.

The parents know their kid...far better than any of you. The parents know what the kid likes and what the kid hates. Being in the backyard would never have been used as a punishment for me because I would have enjoyed it too much...but my parents knew that. It is very reasonably possible that this kid absolutely hates it, and that is why the parents chose it.
