Not a bad use of taxpayer funds, gotta keep those young ones healthy and limber!

Encinitas school board votes yoga program funds - CBS News 8 - San Diego, CA News Station - KFMB Channel 8

Quote:
The Encinitas Union School District Board voted to approve funding for a yoga-based health and wellness program for students.

Some parents are praising the program but others believe the money would be better spent in other areas.

The school board approved $416,000 for student yoga classes.

According to the district, the yoga classes would be part of the district's physical education program needs and would provide students with tools to help with reducing stress sand attaining greater focus.

Great news- yoga does wonders for the mind and body. This will be a huge benefit for the kids, especially since they are so over-stimulated by their gadgets.

I think this is great! Some meaningful PE instead of the usual nonsense where you get graded based on whether you showed up and changed into your PE uniform.

The problem is, they don't have art or music . . . and I believe science either.

They might fail science and math but hey, at least they know yoga.

What a waste.

This is the same as schools spending absurd amounts on sports.

I am torn on this one. At times I complain about how government schools have gone too far away from teaching spiritual and philosophical stuff. But at the same time I am sure there are better things to focus on.

But seriously, 400k! Just get some DVDs and source out the best deal on yoga mats. WTF! It is like government tries to waste money. They wake up, and say "okay how can I waste more money". Hell I bet they could find parent volunteers or something.

I live near there and most of us think that it is a huge waste of money. They hired a ton of yoga instructors. I'm all about wellness but I don't think they had to spend almost half a million dollars on yoga. IMO they should maybe had just had interns from the universities who are studying fitness or education (needing the PE credit or electives) teach this. The money should have gone towards other things, not yoga alone.

Brilliant idea, you should be on the school board or something. But perhaps you have too much common sense. Disqualified.

What nobody has mentioned is that Encinitas Union is an *elementary* school district. I can see teaching yoga in high school.

Oh, then it makes sense....perfect little snow flakes are far too smart for academics.
Have Californians raised any rocket scientists yet?
