Actually I lived in Texas for almost 20 years, never once did I bow to the Chips and Salsa throne. The authentic Mexican and South American Taquerias were much more delicious than you would ever find at a Tex-Mex American owned place. We also had a number of carnecieras from Brasil that were a delight. None of the localcarnecieras or the taquerias ever served chips and dip unless you were a noob and asked for them.

Maybe the chips were that good that they were worth either fighting over or dying for. Sort of like 78 Year Old Punched Over a Nutella Sample at Costco. As I posted in that thread:
