Regardless of his tyranny, if Saddam were around this probably wouldn't have happened.
As the article observes - this is the third time in a week that Islamists claiming to be so-called IS have struck.

That's what happen's when the hornet's nest is kicked. Powell stated that when you remove the head of state you own it. W is responsible for more than 100K Iraqi deaths since the invasion based on a lie.

Yes, the Iraq misadventure was a monumental blunder - nothing but a gift to the Islamists. Well done Bush, well done Blair.

Better there than here.
Nothing new.
They kill others if they can.
If not, they kill their own, Sunni vs shia vs Shiite etc...
Hopefully, they'll kill each other and wipe out but too many of them for that to happen.

Unfortunately those that are against taking out Saddam are for taking out Bashar Al Assad. The hypocrisy!

Both these dictators were/are the lesser evil.

Totally agree. I m glad more and more are now aware of the ridiculous American fallacy of trying to bring "democracy" to foreign places that can hardly support any such institutions. So you rid the dictator, then what? No democracy but instead chaos, misery, economic collapse....all perfect ingredients for radical extremism to take root and prosper. Under saddam the Iraqis had order, jobs and electricity. Now they get misery, death and Isis. Good job, America.

The US and its allies are actually trying to repeat the same stupidity in Syria. I am glad Russia and China have a clearer understanding the the Syrian situation. Assad needs to be supported for everyone's sake.

Yes, the terrible irony - from the West's self serving point of view, Saddam would have been far better.

This is a completely clueless assertion.

Those who opposed the Iraq invasion are most certainly not in favor of invading and occupying Syria. Nor are they peddling some sort of inane "Assad has vast stockpiles of WMD and has the means and intent to use them on us at any moment, so we better get him before he gets us!" nonsense. They are not advocating his overthrow by the American military.

What they have supported is his leaving the scene as part of any brokered cease-fire. If you think that's even remotely analogous to "Let's invade and occupy Iraq! It'll be a cakewalk!", then you are woefully deluded.

PS - Further, if you think that one cannot oppose one conflict on practical bases yet support another one on practical bases, then apparently even fundamental logic eludes you.
