Someone wanna point out what the major difference between the two instances is??
I'm not really sure why you keep trying to make this a race issue. I didn't see any stories in the media criticizing Gabby. Lochte however, has been all over the news and social media for the last week, and there has been a lot of nasty things said about him. A lot of people have never liked Lochte, and this isn't helping his case with those people. And I've only seen him referred to as a kid once by one person, so you can stop trying to claim that everyone is calling him a kid.

Shook down? More like they paid for the damaged they caused and were lucky NOT to be officially arrested and thrown into jail that morning.

Jeffery Dahmer's mom, for starters. Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's mom, for another.....

And the swimmers didn't even file a police report - the police were just "investigating" based on rumors and TV reporting? Sooo glad I don't live there!
No, the police were responding to the scene of a crime. That is their job.

It is amazing how many here want to put the Rio officials and police under the microscope for responding to crimes committed by our citizens. WE should be investigating, apologizing to Brazil for the childish acts of OUR young men, forcing the swimmers to personally apologies, and seeing that they are expelled for an appropriate period from the team that represents all of us.

Gabby's endorsement deals are something like 5x the size of Lochtes for starters.

Now he's losing his endorsements over his actions....and she isn't.

Other than some social media trolls that are busting on them and everybody else on the web....where is the white male privledge?

The bottom line is that "white America" likes her more than him....and she's been on the cover of People, Corn Flakes, McD's, Coke.....seriously, she's got 9-figs in endorsement deals and you guys are whining that she's not treated right in this country?

Your argument is empty and racist.

Lochte is losing endorsements and she isn't. That's the major difference. Explain to me again this magical privledge he has as he loses 10mil in endorsements?

If you can find a way to stop immature jerks on the internet from trolling celebrities then let me in on it and we'll both be billionaires.

It's been my experience that it takes time to go back over records, review video's, question witnesses, and get the story right, rather than just blurting out what you think happened. Would be the same story here in America where it sometimes takes police weeks to get it "right."

No, it is not in this case. In this country it would be classed as civil arrest. If later it was found that the arrest was not legal or appropriate - then it may be called kidnapping.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen%27s_arrest

"A citizen's arrest is an arrest made by a person who is not acting as a sworn law-enforcement official. In common law jurisdictions, the practice dates back to medieval England and the English common law, in which sheriffs encouraged ordinary citizens to help apprehend law breakers."

Brazil
A Federal law allows any person to arrest a suspect criminal found in flagrante delicto or fleeing from the crime scene. The person has to, at his/her own judgment, have the physical power to keep the suspect detained, has to verbally explain what he/she is doing to the arrestee and has to call the police. Both have to wait for the arrival of the police. The person who makes a citizen's arrest has to sign the police forms as a witness and explain the facts. Typically it will lead to a time burden of at least two hours. If the facts cannot be verified the person who realizes the citizen's arrest might be sued by the arrestee.

You don't go to foreign countries, break their laws, and then expect or demand to be treated as if you were in America. That is where the term "Ugly American" comes from.

The post was in response to a grown man's mothers denial, in regards to her son's criminal behavior. The extreme examples were put forth to show how far a mother will go to protect her dysfunctional son.
