Six homes away from the Playboy Mansion is the Spelling Mansion (the largest home in LA county) Lot: 4.7 acres Built in 1990
Last sold: Jul 2011 for $85,000,000 to Petra Ecclestone: Parking: Garage - Attached, 20 spaces (55,000 sq ft 25 bedrooms, 29 baths) Pool, Porch, Sauna, Tennis Court, Vaulted Ceiling, etc.
The playboy mansion has a 5.01 acres lot, which basically justifies the $100 million price. The house built in 1927 will almost certainly be torn down. Address: 10236 Charing Cross Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90024 7 beds 8 baths 14,217 sqft. The logic of that kind of money dictates that such an old home be torn down and replaced with a new home 3-4 times the square footage. Renovations are for the merely rich person, but a mega-millionaire/billionaire will want a new palace.
=======================
In the mid 1960's a man, aged ~47 bought an apartment for 2,500 francs/month (about $500) from a woman who was aged 90 at the time. He would pay that rent for the rest of her life, even if she moved into a nursing home. He could only occupy the apartment when she died. The woman, Jeanne Calment, was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest person at 120, but unfortunately he died at age 77. His widow still had to pay the rent waiting for the old woman to die.
Hugh Hefner is aged 90, but I don't know if there is a clause that covers the situation where he is still alive but cannot live in the home anymore. As he still has a considerable fortune, he may be able to bring enough machinery into the home to keep him functioning for the rest of his life.
