All such schools are a scam. Better to go to a community college, with reasonable tuition, and a recognized degree.

I was listening to KFI in Los Angeles and they had ITT students call in. Some of those students mentioned that if they had just gone to the local Junior College they more than likely could have completed the same education and for about $1,000 compared to the $20K to $30K that some of the students claim to have racked up in student loan debt. One guy mentioned that after he got his job that he found others working with him that had never went to school. He said he did not need the education he got from ITT to get the job that he has.

Then again I am thinking you will only hear from those that were hurt in the process. Those that racked up the debt but had little or no benefit from the school. One caller did say that his $30,000 education did help him get the job he has today. When asked though, he agreed that he could have done the same thing at a state school for a lot less than $30,000.

I really don't understand why people go to for profit colleges. You already pay lots of taxes for public education, why not get the same degree at a community college for 75% less tuition? The big reason the govt stopped providing loans to ITT is because half of all loan defaults come from for profit colleges, defaults cost tax payers money.

Companies want people with degrees. Its difficult to get a job at a large company without a degree.Just have certifications in the computer field isnt enough anymore unless you already have a lot of experience.

Nothing new, for-profit diploma mills have been around forever ... a big change in recent years is the cashing in on federal financial aid and purchasing schools in financial trouble to use the accreditation that school had earned:

College, Inc. | FRONTLINE | PBS

Minnesota's own John Kline (MN 3rd) has been the best friend of these types of schools for years in the U.S. House:

And yet again the tax payer is left holding the bag:

I really hope the government goes after the remnants of ITT to recover some of the money.
