Virginia Woman Sentenced to 6 Months in Prison for Collecting Deceased Grandmother's Social Security Checks | Office of the Inspector General, SSA

"A woman received six months in prison Monday for collecting her late grandmother's Social Security benefits for more than a decade, according to federal prosecutors.

Yvette A. Disnew, 48, of Newport News pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in May to stealing more than $152,000 from the government.

According to court documents, Disnew's 87-year-old grandmother, Carrie Lee Mason, died April 12, 1999. Disnew never informed the Social Security Administration."
