Bob Dylan was, and remains. a "warts-and-all" portrait of his times. It might be a bit of a stretch to call his music "literature" in the strict sense, but he's always remained in touch with something that transcended most of our personal hang-ups and related to a subtly-but-constantly changing marketplace scene called contemporary America. And that is sufficient.

No doubt.

The Nobel Committees are as brain dead as Hollywood.

Well, they'll stone you when you're walkin' on the street
They'll stone you when you're tryin' to keep your seat
They'll stone you when you're walkin' on the floor
They'll stone you when you're walkin' to the door
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

Looks like they were written by a 9-year old.

Come on, that was a "fun song", not a real representation of his work

P.S. I sure hope my 9 year old isn't writing songs about getting stoned

If anything at least it is for the print form for it was based on hsi singing I doubt if half could hear what he was mumbling.

He might be a good song writer but an awful singer.

He is actually a good singer. The "mumbling" is a style choice.

He wrote almost 400 songs.

And, the example you chose was a GREAT song! Maybe you didn't understand it.

not always, and he evolved into probably one of the greatest 'vocalists' of our time...I suppose Celine is a great singer, but she and others sing with so much lack of expression I could just as soon be watching a mime

Dylan's strength was always in the songs he created, not his voice

That's what I was going to say. Not a "great" singing voice in the classic sense, that's for sure, but on the other hand, very recognizable!

I love Bob Dylan ..... he deserves this award as his work is really poetry set to music. People may not like his voice (I do), or music (I do), or personality (don't know much about it), but the lyrics of his songs are pretty impressive. 'Hard Rain's gonna fall' is one of my favorites.
