A former emergency dispatcher in Houston is facing charges after police say she repeatedly hung up on callers because she "did not want to talk to anyone."
Umm, I'm sorry but she hung up on a 911 caller that was trying to report shots fired; which turned out to be a man that been hit. And said man died.
And the "interference with an emergency telephone call" charge only carries a misdemeanor?
Ain't nobody got a better charge? For real!
Sure, the man may have been dead immediately upon being shot but that's not really the point.
I'd say throw her a$$ in solitary so she doesn't have to speak to anyone but with this charge she'll do community service. And god help us if she does.

The prosecution would probably have to prove that the 911 operator not doing her job right caused or accelerated the victim's death, and that simply may not be true or may not be easy to prove. It's possible the wound was fatal either way. I agree with you that it doesn't seem "right" but it's a legal question and burdens need to be met, and perhaps they can't be in this case.
911 operators make barely over minimum wage in many locales. Those who are worth any count are not going to do a high- stress, high- stakes, odd- hours job for $8/hr. I wouldn't do it for any less than $17, personally.
They didn't screen her before hiring her? She doesn't need to be working with the public.
