I feel so bad for his family I hope there is at least proof that he was on drugs or drunk rather than that foolish.

And where did he get the gun? Did he just happen on it on the street? And why wasn't there a gun lock on it?

The fontal lobe isn't fully developed at that age causing many potentially very bright people to do really stupid things. I feel terrible for his family

I wonder if he was suicidal or drunk/high though.

Years ago, I worked with someone whose daughter made a suicide pact with a friend that after graduation they would kill themselves. They left a note that in short said that they thought they had had the best years of their lives and wanted to end it at that.

I suspect this may have been a suicide if drugs and/or alcohol wasn't involved.

Whether it happens to a family member, co-worker or close friend, this senseless tragedy illustrates how impossible it is to know what type of instability resides in the minds of others and how susceptible a person can be to making a horrendous decision at certain times. Such instances are rare but when they occur the resulting devastation to those left behind is incalculable. I extend my sincere condolences to the family.

That's right, blame the gun or the gun owner! NEVER, under any circumstances, blame the person who pulled the trigger.
the anti-gun mentality...

Seems there is a lot of people seeking Darwin awards these days. Congrats to this idiot who successfully accomplished it.
