This should be the punishment for anyone leaving a person OR an animal in a hot car, even if its by accident. I'll bet you they'll all remember if they know life in prison is awaiting.

Life in prison for an accident? The same punishment as it is for the person who did it on purpose? The same punishment as the guy who stole girls riding a school bus,, sold them as sex slaves after torturing the ugly ones?
Dear God please stop posting your thoughts.

While the individual in this story fully deserves his sentence, I agree with you - it's absurd to be throwing people in prison for life for unintentional mistakes, regardless of the results of those mistakes. Clearly wall st kid completely fails to understand human nature. People don't stop making mistakes just because you threaten them with horrific punishment.
You'd think at some point it would dawn on people, given that we live in the country that has the highest incarceration rate in the world and yet has a higher rate of offenses than most other industrialized liberal democracies, that punitive retribution is not the end-all-be-all solution that they think it to be.
Except that by all accounts, it wasn't an accident. The prosecution contended that he researched and planned it, thus making it a premeditated murder.
Wasn't talking about this case. Wall Street clearly said his position is to punish anyone who leave a child or a pet in a hot car with life in prison, even if it was a horribly tragic accident that will change a parent for life. He also believes this threat will prevent a parent from accidentally killing his or her child in the most horrific manner possible.
Perhaps the dumbest position I have read all week. But then again it's only Wednesday and this is the internet.

I totally agree with you. IMO it was a tragic accident and could not believe he received life in prison for it. I am tired of reading about people who committed murder but only received 25 years because they took a plea. I'm sure this man lives with the carelessness and loss of his child every day. Some of the postings sound more like a lynch mob mentality.
If it was clearly an accident then the punishment was too harsh; however, if they proved it was premeditated then he got off easy with life in prison!!
