Your bolded makes it absolutely not any less bad.

No it doesn't, just pointing out the fact that the children involved are younger.

Well stated. Should be gonzo...sent to reform school.

Have the parents of the battered boy been given the name of the boy and parents involved?

They should have been given this information as soon as the beating occurred, and the school should have called 911 then. Was the school trying to protect the other vile child as well as the school itself?

They should not have to file a FREEDOM of INFORMATION ACT request to get all the details available to the school, the police, etc..

This is not a "BOYS WILL BE BOYS" situation.

Is this inter-racial? Is it a hate crime? Is the other child (who did the beating) a child of one of the teachers in the school?

Because the boy was beaten to the point that he was unconscious! They should have, IMHO:

1. Called 911 first for an AMBULANCE and police.

2. Called the beaten child's parents

3. THEN called the beaters parents.

This child had facial and skull fractures. This was not just a simple punch!

You're not going to go to prison if you have made a good faith effort to deal with a crazy kid. Luckily, most kids aren't this bad, but society definitely gives even the good ones a lot of latitude to act out their basest whims.

If schools had zero-tolerance strict discipline, uniforms, and high standards, well it wouldn't be a joy to go to school of course but it would surely train more kids to behave at least until they turn 18 and then they are free to destroy their own lives, but while they are in school they have no such freedom.
I agree. Unfortunately, kids that misbehave are being slapped on the hand with no real punishment. Once they realize they can get away with bad behavior it continues.

In Charlotte they have released a study that there are too many black students being suspended vs. white students. Their answer is to quit suspending so many black students. Unbelievable.

I think it is awful what happened to this 12 year old boy. I hope he will recover and I hope the boys that beat him will be severely punished.

Hmmm...assault and battery are still a crime on the books.

minimizing the incident to justify your stance is equally disturbing.
