I also found it fascinating and almost wish they could have continued to observe her from afar a little while longer and only step in if she seemed to be in danger. It could have been a great experiment.
I wonder how she wound up there? Abandoned because she was a girl? The monkeys stole her?
I really doubt she was raised from infancy by these monkeys. She would have had to be able to get around on her own. It just seems impossible that a human infant would have survived living like she was. Humans just are not that tough. That's where finding out just how she got where she was will be so interesting, and at what age.
And "living comfortably" yet covered with wounds? Hmmmm....
There's got to be a best-seller here somewhere.
Of course she would have been covered with wounds. Monkeys are nasty creatures. Bites, scratches you name it. A testament to an immune system raised without antibiotics and a human skin, without the hair and extra toughness. Wounds would have been just a part of life. Animals pain tolerance is not like humans. They ignore it. We scream for morphine. Her brain is totally rewired.
the girl probably had a pretty good gig going and would have been in line eventually for a position of authority within this particular troop of monkeys, if she goes back now she'll likely lose her seniority and start again at the bottom of the barrel (of monkeys).
You guys should probably read the linked articles - they answer these questions and suppositions.
