"Now, a 13-year-old girl is facing criminal charges in connection to his death. Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Wiese said the girl posed as someone else when she was texting with Tysen and faked her own death. And the boy, for reasons still unclear, believed it and killed himself within two hours of receiving the messages, Wiese said."
"The girl, whose name was not released, has been charged with malicious use of telecommunication service, punishable by up to six months in juvenile detention; and using a computer to commit a crime, which carries up to a year in punishment. Both are misdemeanor charges."
She was pretending to be someone else, telling him that his girlfriend (herself in reality) had committed suicide. Its irrelevant whether or not she meant it as a prank, it was sent with cruel intentions. You don't just do that to someone. And guess what, it lead to him killing himself. Yes, she should be held responsible. At 13 you're old enough to know what you're doing is effed up. Yes, it WAS malicious. Very.
yes. at 13 you know that is wrong and should face consequences- to set an example to other teens, if anything....
(and we are only talking about ONE YEAR of punishment, vs a deceased 11 yr old/ the loss of the rest of his LIFE...)
It's sad but I don't see how charges against her can possibly stand. Just because the form of communication is new people don't know how to process this type of thing.
Texting is not "new." My first cell phone that I got back in 2004 had texting capabilities.
ITS VERY SAD.... SHE PROBABLY IS LAUGHING ABOUT IT....... She deserves bad things!!!
Poor boy
I feel bad for the boy.
But has it come out anywhere that the girl texted that he should commit suicide?. Just because she faked her death does not mean that his committing suicide was her fault.

Just because the prosecutor brought criminal charges against the girl does not mean that it will stand. No jury will convict a 13 year old on such flimsy evidence.
Honestly, I think filing charges here is ridiculous. Was this a really stupid thing to do? YES. But they're kids. 11 and 13 year olds probably are unable to think things through enough to realizing that if something happens because of this they MIGHT face charges.
And, again to be totally frank, what kid reacts to this type of thing by trying to commit suicide? That is not a normal reaction, not even for the age group. Something else might have been going on with this boy - maybe other personal problems, maybe mental illness. I doubt this girl did this stupid prank with the thought in mind that this boy might attempt suicide as a result. FFS.
And yes - too young for boyfriends and girlfriends. Too young for so much social media use.
the girl is being charged with misdemeanors- some community service hours will do her some good. She obviously has too much time on her hands.
(PS girl was stupid and mean, and yea in our society meaness- like when you intentionally torture or abuse a DOG -- has consequences)
I still fail to see where it was reported that she bullied him or encouraged him to take his life. She played a prank of pretending that she was dead. Just because this caused him to take his life ( no normal 11 year old does that) does not mean that criminal charges can be filed against her under the anti bullying law. Even if it was just for a misdemeanor.

And they were apparently boyfriend and girlfriend. I highly doubt she was bullying her boyfriend (as loosely as I use that term when referring to an 11 and 13 year old's relationship).
Not everything is bullying. This sounds like some really dumb prank that this boy had an extreme reaction to. Again, who would reasonably expect this reaction from him or anyone? I sure as hell wouldn't. And if I thought it might land me with charges, I certainly wouldn't have risked it in the first place - then again I'm not 13.

No I guess your right but the boy was probably unstable and did not take it as well as others might
