After seeing the picture of the victim, I would dare say that many people would have just ignored him and left him to die. He is absolutely covered with tattoos and some of them indicate gang affiliation or at least a wannabe.

So let's be honest, how many people would be willing to jump into a possible gator infested pond to save a tatted up gang member that walked in fully clothed despite being warned not to?

I was reading his go fund me page (for his young daughters and funeral) and they suspect it was either suicide or homicide. The whole thing...its really sad. Even though he had tattoos its sad. *sigh*

At first I thought mentally challenged victim who didn't realize the danger. After seeing the picture I think maybe someone who was disabled as the result of an accident who purposely went into the water with the thought of dying?
Bizarre story and those guys should have called 911 at the very least when they realized he was calling for help, no matter why the guy went into the water in the first place.

I doubt not saving him had anything to do with his tattoos...could they even see them? Nor would I guess they knew if he had gang affiliation. I would agree that it wouldn't be safe for a teenager to jump in and try to save and adult. But laughing and joking instead of calling 911 is sociopathic.

The laughing is bad but there's no way I would swim out that far to attempt a rescue. I couldn't. A 911 call would've been in order.

What would they be punished for? Being a jerk isn't against the law. You are under no obligation to try and help some one if it puts your own life at risk.

Someone should embarrass the hell out of those kids.

No humanity, no conscience, no morals.

I suspect those fine citizens will be just like the "Bernard Goetz Victims"......dead, OD, in jail.....despite being "misunderstood young men" after they tried to rob Bernie and got shot instead.

Part of the issue is when you get kids together in a group, they make bad decisions.

It's similar to the story about the group of teens who were playing the music too loud at a pool at an apartment complex in Florida. An elderly lady who was on the community board asked them to turn it down. While others were laughing and taking cell phone videos, one of the teens picked the lady up and threw her in the pool, along with her little dog.

It's unlikely any one of them would have done this if he were alone.

Yeah. We just had a teenage girl found guilty for pushing her boyfriend to commit suicide, but nothing is happening to these kids who, instead of using the phone to call 911, decided to record the man's death instead. Something is seriously wrong here.
