You couldn't pay me to go on any ride that has the capability to fold up and be transported down the interstate.

Pretty much. I'll do the Merry-Go-Rounds and stuff, but those things flying up in the air and twirling around at high rates of speed are a major no-no for me. I'll stick to theme/amusement parks for that, where equipment is properly bolted down and needs to be completely disassembled (not folded) if it needs to be moved.

I remember watching the carnival guys set up back in the early 90s and they were testing out a high speed ride that spun on an axis. One of the ends went flying about 50' into the air and landed in a field about 100' away or so. The cage was steel and got a bit dented. They proceeded to haul it in the back of a large pickup truck back to the ride and get out a small power screwdriver to re-attach it to the ride. Kids as young as 10 were enjoying the ride a few hours later. You couldn't pay me to get on that thing.

I use to love carnivals. Now I won't go near them. I've actually seen a ride malfunction (nothing like the video above), but enough to make me never get on one again.

I never cared much for the rides, even as a kid.
I much preferred the booths where I could win stuff by throwing darts, baseballs, or shooting guns, at least I got something to show for my money. Besides, the scary ride came later as we drove home down the highway.

Yikes! Poor man.

I don't ride any of those fast-spinning rides. The last time I tried one, back when I was 18 or so, I prayed for death the whole time to end the nausea.

I don't need those rides to get dizzy and nauseous; that's why I eat all of the fried on-a-stick food items!

My condolences to the family and close friends of the victims of this tragic accident.

As a Buckeye, I've been to the Ohio State Fair many times, but never, ever went on one of the rides. I limited my activity to checking out the Butter Cow, and eating the "fair food".

I think most of these itinerate "carnival" rides need to go away.

I love the fair and theme park "flat rides." I've been on this before, The Claw. It's a pretty fun ride. I haven't rode one in some time though... That said, it is a risk anytime you go on a ride, more so a fair ride. Most rides I will do because the risk of failure on the ride or even injury and death are razor-thin, despite the fact we hear more about accidents than we do ride openings. I feel sorry for the families for this tragedy.
