Oops, I won in the Mega Millions game. Tonight is Power Ball!

What's interesting is this is true for the vast majority of people....except for the 1 (or 2 or 3) people that are going to win eventually.....

One thing is for sure. If we don't buy a ticket, we can't possibly win.

We bought five for Tuesday's drawing. It's the first lottery tickets we've ever purchased, except for the instant scratch offs to stick inside birthday cards.

It's fun to dream and ponder the possibilities.

Exactly. People waste MUCH more than $2 on all kinds of useless crap. If you don't play your chance is exactly 0. If you do buy a ticket, it's a small chance.

Of course some people are just stubbornly disciplined and never buy any lotto tickets, which is fine.

Everyone values their own $ in their own way.

People can also rightfully say: If you don't play; you don't loose. Your odds are greater at being struck with lightening or being hit by a car.

It is still great to dream and it only takes one ticket to dream. I do worry when I see many people, that look like they cannot afford the tickets, and they spend hundreds of dollars each week. Of course we cannot make laws against being a fool with your money and I am sure somebody would point out the example of John Doe that never had a dime and is now a millionaire. But I always worry about the families of the compulsive gamblers and how they are deprived so their loved ones can play.

I realize these number are not exact but the concept ….

The chances of winning has been stated as 1 in 300 million or there are about 300 million possible numbers.

The payout is close to 2 Billon with at least a 1 Billion cash value.

A ticket is 2 bucks.

If you buy every possible number for 600 million, you are guaranteed a 1 Billion payoff or 400 million profit. Assuming no one else picks the winning number.

You forgot taxes. Your payout AFTER tax is is probably around 600 million +/- so there is no profit. On top of that the chances of multiple winners is higher when jackpots reach these levels.
