I have had a lot of iphones...I do get the insurance on them. They almost always fail in some way at a year. If you are lucky its the battery. But sometimes its the motherboard. Now its an unfixable software glitch...or so it seems. Mine kind of works.

So I am on a 5. How is the 7? What are the perks of the 8 or X? Any thoughts?

I don't give a crap about selfies but I would love awesome camera quality and would pay more for that if it was excellent.
Yet your phone is from 2012. So does your comment mean that you've had five iphone 5's since 2012?

I still have a fully mechanically functional iphone and ipad from the days that they had no numbers being currently used by my niece. The only thing it doesn't do is upgrade to the latest version of the iOS to accept newer apps. Both still hold charges.

There's a model number on the back (you may have to angle it in a certain way as it is very light). Google it and the related model number will come up. Or you can go to Settings/About and get the model number from there and then google it.

This is one expensive iPhone. Leave it to Apple to remove features, add outdated ones, jack up the price $200+, and try to convince buyers they're getting something "special." I have been following an iPhone X thread on Facebook, and even most iPhone owners are dismayed at the cost. This is especially true considering this device doesn't offer any real innovation. Most of its features are things that have been available in other electronics for years. And the facial recognition feature isn't going over well either. If only one in a million people can access your personal device as Apple claims, that means that at least 323 people just in the US can hack your $1000+ phone. Don't get me wrong; everyone has the right to choose whatever phone they like and what works for them. I am just very curious about how this price point will affect sales.

Not to mention likely to become obsolete within a year or two.

....if that's the case, they should have done this stuff 5 years (and a couple versions) ago.

Apple in general has lagged - on OLED displays, cordless charging, etc. Not impressed by the technology or the price.

You must be rough on phones. All of my iPhones have lasted me 2-3 years and still were in excellent condition when I sold them to upgrade.
