Back in the 1980s there were several incident where kids tossed bowling balls off of overpasses in Detroit. Some people injured, some killed. I thought that is why they have fences along the overpasses now.
Me, my brother, and some of his friends once got caught throwing rocks at cars (and I mean rocks the size of grapes or strawberries); one of the motorists stormed up through the yard and knocked on the front door; us kids scattered, but it was too late, we were busted. Phone calls were made and mom knew about it by the time we ran in through the back door.
The beating was epic that night.
We definitely never did that again.
We were maybe 6 and 8, so that'd make it sometime in the early 1980s.
Defenestration is the act of throwing someone out a window. I'm not sure what the bridge equivalent would be, "debridgeatation?" Over water of course, so no more injuries happen.
Unbelievable what passes for a prank today. I'm glad they caught these thugs because hurling bricks and pushing boulders off bridges appear to be the fun things to do across the country.
Idle hands kill another working stiff. Not exactly a new story.
This kind of stupidity was a bit of a fad in downtown Detroit in the late 1970s. Kids were tossing bricks, rocks, whatever onto passing cars on the highway. I remember a driver got killed when someone dropped a bowling ball through the windshield. Someone else got killed after a similar moment of genius caused a pile-up on 94. I hope this doesn't turn back into a trend.
I remember this happening when my friend and I were going down a freeway in the Bay Area. I'm not sure if it was 101 or 280. This was in the 80s. We saw the kids on the overpass and then something dropped on the hood of my car. Man, I was so pissed. I floored the accelerator, got off at the next exit and raced back to the overpass. The kids saw us coming and ran. I saw what block they turned on and when I turned that corner, I saw them racing into a house. I must have smoked the pavement when I came to a stop and at about that point, this huge guy came stalking out of the house.
My friend's eyes had been like saucers this entire time and she asked me what I was going to do. I told her I had no idea, but I got out the car and told the guy (as calmly as I could) that his kids were throwing rocks off the overpass and one hit my car. He said he'd take care of it and from his expression, I'm glad I wasn't one of his kids.
I always wonder if those kids remember that, now that they're grown, and think about what would have happened if they hadn't been stopped and someone was seriously hurt.

That's an excellent way of handling it! I love this!
There's no death penalty in Michigan, but there is life in prison.
The 17 year old that dropped the killer rock will get life for sure. At least a few of the younger ones are likely to plea-bargain down from second degree murder, but are still likely to get 5-10 minimum.
