Well, yes and no. I was lucky there was an exit right in front of me (the kids were on a pedestrian overpass, I think) and that I was in the slow lane. So yes, in that we found and caught the kids, or at least the house they ran into, but no, in that chasing them was a completely impulsive act on my part that could have ended up in a bad neighborhood with a father ticked off at us, not the kids. Although now that I think about it, I had my Doberman with me -maybe that's why I wasn't afraid to go chasing after anyone.

Nowdays if I did something like that, though, I'd be prepared to have the kids pull a gun on me.

I'm thinking 30 years for the ones who threw it. Someone will squeal and get nothing. The others 10. But its tough to say who really was a willing accomplice. Some 15 year old could have been in over his head with a crowd of bad 17 year olds.

Yeah, it was pretty pathetic to view their smug thug mugs.

It is more than likely this is NOT the first time these boys have been in some kind of trouble, maybe the first time they got caught. Let's see who the fingers will be pointed at as the "great idea person" who thought it was a good idea to do this dumbazz act.

Wouldn't it be refreshing to see a parent take responsibility for their children's (dumb) actions and support the judicial process to give the right sentence for their actions. Say they have done the crime, now they do the time. Not try to defend their stupid actions that ended in tragedy.

Parents should realize when they give such free reign to their kids, not know where they are, where they are going, who they are with, things can happen. Yes, things can happen even with knowing, but less likely of something like this if parents where more engaged with their kids.

I do think they should each get the same penalty regardless of who actually threw it. Send a message to other kids.

Imagine thinking like this and thinking that you're any better than those who committed the crime.

Problem with this is, that they almost certainly weren't thinking of the consequences. So "tough" consequences won't deter anything.
