The idea was a simple, big-hearted one. Give Sepp Shirey, who suffers from cerebral palsy and plays for the Atlee High football team, the chance to carry the ball for a few yards during a game.
But something nice happened when Shirey, a senior at the Virginia school, dropped the crutches he uses when he is on the field. He broke free for an 80-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter of the game against Varina High. Alerted by the Atlee coach to the play, Varina and Atlee players ran with Shirey instead of ending his run with a two-handed touch.
This story made me cry, for a (feel) good reason
