I don't know what it is with you, but it's not as black and white and you're making it seem.
Some people just HAVE to send their kids to whatever school is readily available. Some parents don't have the money to afford a lawyer (like you wrote about earlier) for change. Hell, some parents barely have money in general and the cheapo public school in their neighborhood is their only realistic option.
When it comes to hitting back, as someone who recently graduated school and actually went to several, it's true. You literally, as a person being bullied, can't hit back. You risk being suspended or expelled for simple self defense and god forbid your bully is the school super athlete, now you're screwed and their babied. If that's the only high school in the district, you have (maybe) the alternative school as your only option. If there is no ALC there, now what? You're ****ed is what.
You are lucky. YOU can homeschool your children, but that's not a realistic option for some and it's wouldn't kill you to be a little caring and try to see it from both sides.
I would advise any high schooler who is attacked to file a report with the POLICE. Do not even attempt to bother with the school. The school won't do anything. Call the police. Period. Get it on record that you were DEFENDING yourself. Take it from there.
Self defense is a right. You know what happens when you fight back? You stop getting picked on because you aren't an easy target anymore.
When did people become more afraid of a suspension than being physically harmed? People need to stop being terrified of school authority. Because they sure as heck don't care about you.
Also, homechooling is not about luck, it's about choice. It's about making a different decision than the 90% of other people. There are so many options for education now, public, private, charter, magnet, online, tutors, GED ... you do not have to go to public school.
But no one bothers to investigate the options. It's just ... well, they're lucky, we're not, so let's just keep doing what we are doing, not bother researching any possible options. Just like, well, I guess I'll just let this guy pummel the crap out of me because I'll get suspended.
It's a very sick mentality. Someone attacks you you DEFEND YOURSELF. Period. It's called survival instinct.

At this point I give up with you, you're hell bent on an option that'll get your kid EXPELLED. People have tried reasoning with you with why kids don't do that, family situations, consequences to the student, possible negative impacts on their entire family, especially thinking on the fact that they are kids too, and you still make a conscious effort to go against it and actively refuse to even attempt to rationalize why.
You're literally thinking in black and whites, no grey area that is the basis of the situation, and as someone not in school who has the liberty of making the choice to fight back and not risk your entire education being compromised.
Someone who homeschools can't understand what it's like to actually deal with schools. It's very easy to give all of this big tough advice when you aren't living it, and seeing how it really works

You have zero information regarding my experience with public schools. Zero. And your lack of knowledge regarding my experience has no beating on the truth of the situation. It's irrelevant. Letting someone attack your child and telling your child don't defend yourself is NEVER appropriate. As a a parent, letting your child get hurt is neglect.
How it really works? I would never let my kid get beat up, tell him not to defend himself for fear of being expelled.
That's SICK.
Would you let a stranger on the street smack your kid? No. But you won't stand up for your kid once he sets foot on school grounds. /facepalm/
That's how it really works. You protect your kid ... or you don't. Those are the 2 options.

If it comes to telling my kid to let himself get physically assaulted or get expelled, than yes I go with expelled.
It's a no brainer. You teach your kid to STAND UP, and teach your kid that you will stand up with that choice, your child will be better prepared to face life.
Your "entire" education has not been compromised. If you truly truly want to make it black and white, the school expels you, you get a GED, you go to CC for 2 years and transfer to university.

Fair enough. Then tell me. Seriously asking.
Have you used the tactics you are proposing in this thread with a child of yours in a public school and what have the outcomes been?
