Barf! Did you see the smirk on the woman's photo on the left? What a band of kooks.

Her mother wasn't also charged? She was also in the marriage.

Try reading the (very short) article. The mother was also charged.

Guys, am I reading it correctly that the mother had previously married her son? This is one of the strangeest things I've read in quite some time.

"...KOTV points out that Patricia married her biological son in 2008, but that was annulled in 2010 after he called it "incestuous."...."

I read about this before. The bio mom is a psycho and was psychologically tormenting her bio son and daughter into marriage for some sort of benefits (state I believe).

The children were adults but they were clearly emotionally damaged and vulnerable to this crazy woman's schemes.

Why do they call it incestuous? It's only incestuous if sex is involved. Sounds like it was done to scam. That'd be an illegal marriage due to being too closely related. They shouldn't make it sound sexual if it wasn't. The daughter is already going to have to deal with the drama without adding that she gets it on with her mom.

"People should be permitted to marry who they want!" I've been hearing this for decades.

What I've been hearing is "Consenting adults should be permitted to marry who they want, absent a compelling state interest in prohibiting such marriages".

In fact, that is the law.

But I knew when I first read this thread, I knew beyond any doubt, that someone was going to waltz in and use this topic to grind we-all-know-which political ax. And someone - you - did just that.

There are quite a few relatives living in romantic relationships due to genetic sexual attraction. In theory, I'm not opposed but in reality I think the parent still retains an unfair power over the child even if they met as adults. Look at this example, even if it wasn't sexual, it was the mom who talked the children into these marriages. There's always going to be a part of the abandoned child to want to please the parent and get the love. GSA relationships might be more viable in siblings.
