How stupid does a person have to be to go to a store, ANY store, knowing what is likely to happen, has happened in the past, and will happen again?
The cited incidents are exactly why I will NOT go shopping during such "special events"!

Not only will I not shop on Black Friday, I won't go to brick and mortar stores for the whole month of December for anything except food because the merchandise may have been jostled or dropped during the Black Friday madness. For anything that is supposed to last a long period of time I will buy it online or buy it during the spring or summer seasons.
People just have to get that deal and save that almighty dollar.... no matter what it costs. I would like to blame the retailers for their marketing that sets the stage for this, but it's really the idiocy of the consumers that's the problem. My fellow human's behavior can be very disappointing at times.

The big retailers are much to blame because they have and continue to build up the big event. They play on how you have to beat the other guy to get the limited deals and create/prey on the competition. I know people who are into the whole competition of it and bragging rights about how they are better shoppers than you because they got such and such a deal.
Yes, Black Friday has been a huge sale day for years, but the current hysteria is indeed built up and played up by the stores. Heck, even the fights turn into positive marketing for the store. "Deals so big people break into riots over them!!!! SHOP now, Now, NOW.!!!"

Yes, the biggest contributing factor to the violence is the retailers limiting the quantities that will be sold with the biggest discounts. Of course the idiotic consumers don't understand they are buying a watered down or very low quality version at these discounts.
Apparently no one read the article. This brawl wasnt about Black Friday merchandise. It was a personal issue that escalated.
