Yes. The MNM, still trying to be 24-hour cable news networks, broke into regular programming 30 minutes ago. What followed was a panel of people "bringing in" person after person, NONE of whom had any information about this crash, but simply flapping their gums and wanting to hear themselves talk. More information could be garnered from the internet. The last "observation" was that the train was going too fast around a curve. Really?

If they don't have any news, they should get off the air.

Derailed Amtrak train plunges off bridge onto I-5 lanes south of Tacoma | KOMO

The new re-route just opened this morning

"The train had just begun using a new high-speed route Monday morning. Lakewood city oficials had earlier expressed fears that the new route would cause serious accidents."

I watched a clip about it on the news, and the reporter discussed Amtrak's poor safety record. The NTSB has reported that Amtrak's trains have not been maintained adequately or in a timely manner, which is a contributing factor in the high frequency of accidents.

I do hope everybody is okay, it doesn't look so good. I couldn't help but notice the graffiti in the photos. This was a new track and they already have graffiti on the bridge? LABRAT R/K? NATION, what the heck is that?

It is not a new track, freight has been rolling over that track for decades. It is a new route for that passenger run. It was supposed to allow for higher speeds. Curve? I don't see any curve. It looks for all the world like two cars made it safely over the overpass but the 4th fell off completely and the third is hanging off at an angle. Amtrak may have a poor safety record but they also have a monopoly on rail transportation. They are RICH! It is cheaper to settle the lawsuits that result from occasional accidents and do nothing about their crumbling infrastructure and bring it up to a 21st Century standard.

Very sad, my prayers to the injured.

Why does train travel continue to be more risky in the US than other first world countries?

Too many serious accidents and not every track has positive train control?

So sad.

They're reporting at least 6 dead, and over 70 people taken to the hospital. There were only 78 passangers on board the train, but some of the injured came from people in cars on the roadway.

Having spent 12 years of my life driving I5 between Puyallup and Seattle, I called that road The Thunderdome. I figured I would die on that road.

I remember the bridge in question...vey narrow and rickety.
