This whole emotional support animal angle has long outlived its useful life.
It's about time they started cracking down. This woman is an utter idiot for doing that. Not sure if she could be charged with anything but she deserves to be a customer in the criminal justice system.

Reminds me years ago when I worked at Home Depot. Customer was having problems with ants. Employee jokingly said, "light the lawn on fire and you'll take care of the ants." Customer took that advice literally, came back and complained his lawn was ruined. Home Depot ended up paying for a new lawn...
You know it was only a hamster and they only live a few years, but it really angered me that she had no value on the life of the poor little animal. Yes she could have easily not flown, given it away, or as bad as it sounds, turned it loose. If the airport people caught it I don't think they would have killed it.
So here's an innocent animal that supposedly makes her life better and this is the reward it gets?
I'll say one thing, any employer or even college that sees what she did is going to probably turn her away.
Turn her away? She is in college right now (she attends a college in Chambersburg, PA and was flying home to Florida to seek medical treatment); did they throw her out?
Saw a picture of the hamster; he is a cute little fellow. Now she bought another hamster!! I hope Spirit doesn't tell her to flush it down the toilet, or United drag it off the plane.
She had 9 hours before her flight. She could have called animal control and they would have picked him up. Or any nearby pet shop would probably have taken him. Or any arriving passengers with kids...
She's an attention seeking idiot. I guarantee you that no airline employee told her to flush him.

You watch, a few years from now when she applies for a job they may search on the internet for info about her and I'll bet she has a hard time.
Remember that guy that made fun of the Virginia tech shootings? He posted that he was unemployable after it went on the internet . Every job he went for found out about him and wouldn't hire him because he was not of the moral character they would want in an employee.
If you need emotional support during a flight bring a teddy bear.
Yep, good idea. And it'll be allowed on the plane, too.
