You missed that poster's point. An item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Someone, not simply me. Just because I wouldn't pay $XXX for an item doesn't mean the item isn't worth $XXX.

(The OP, on the other hand, confused making a charitable contribution with making a purchase.)

My thought about the previous poster was they consider the value to be vested in the usefulness of something rather than the aesthetic value.

It seems the retail value of Pappy's best Bourbon would be about $3000 for the bottle So the extra contribution of $7000 is worth the publicity and the deduction.
