The full name of that reason is Fear and Ignorance. Almost all environmentally induced cancer is caused by smoking, alcohol and obesity. PFOAs, PCBs and acrylamides only cause cancer in lab tests performed in California.

Instead of fretting about things that might, possibly, if the stars are perfectly aligned, cause a cancer here or there (although it will still be impossible to conclude so with even the lowest confidence), ban smoking, alcohol and overeating.

If people are genuinely worried about external sources of cancer, no bigger bangs for any amount of bucks can be had than that.

As far as coffee:

'Amy Trenton-Dietz, public health specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, said the California ruling contrasts with what science shows.

"Studies in humans suggest that if anything, coffee is protective for some types of cancer," she said. "As long as people are not putting a lot of sugar or sweeteners in, coffee, tea and water are the best things for people to be drinking."'

I believe this is the chemical discussed in coffee processing...all coffee I don't know. I drink ONLY 1 organic cup of coffee daily and for many yrs I drank 2 cups of coffee daily but no more...I like my sleep and coffee drinking interfers there....I never got on the starbucks or other coffee shops bandwagons.

What is acrylamide and how is it involved with food and health?

Trump and Gang are trying to eliminate those labels. Pretty soon you'll have DDT in your coffee, soda, steaks, baby food, cereal, basically anything the producers want to dump in the food supply will never be mentioned on a label.

It's the quickest way for them to get rid of all those underclass wasters of Our Tax Money.

And counting down to this post being removed....

I had a Dunkin Donut in England last year and it tasted a whole lot better than what they give us over here. Probably because of the fake junk they're not allowed to put in it. I had a Dunkin back here and it tasted like cardboard in comparison. Good thing maybe--I don't want to eat donuts anymore!

Don't worry so much about the coffee beans, worry about the water you're making the coffee with.

"Our government does not test for the presence of PFASs in the water sources of 50 million people because they fall below a population threshold of 10,000 persons. Yet, more than 90 percent of all public water systems are small each serving fewer than 10,000 residents."

That includes many chemicals not just PFOAs.

I'm reluctant to provide the link for that statement since it's on a fund raising site for a documentary about the problem and City Date might object to that.

Check the contamination map on this one.

Oh don't get me started on the public waters. I will NOT drink tap water and cook and make my one cup of coffee with bottled spring water...again we choose our poisons.

On the coffee beans, I've read that they are highly treated with pesticides, I buy only organic coffee....my one cup a day does it for me, enjoying my morning cup now.

Look at the details behind this joke.
I agree --- this is largely why I no longer read warning labels --- they have become 99% *meaningless*, so the 1% I maybe should read.... oh well, not likely.

CA is out to lunch, I'm sorry to say.

Dennis Prager mentioned this should be added to the "Welcome to California" signs --- WARNING: there are numerous things to be wary of in this state. :-/
