Mom is escorted off Disney cruise by armed guard because she was pregnant | Daily Mail Online

Quote:
One woman's dream of a Disney vacation was crushed when she was denied entry on a cruise because she was pregnant and was subsequently escorted off by a guard bearing an AR-15 rifle.

YouTuber Emily Jackson, 22, is a mother-of-two with a baby boy on the way.

Jackson, along with her husband, children, parents, and siblings flew from St. Louis to Miami to embark on a picture-perfect vacation.

The 10-member strong family even wore matching T-shirts that said 'Keep calm and enjoy your Disney vacation'.

However what ensued was the opposite of calm when. Disney cruise personnel refused Jackson entry on the cruise because she was 25 weeks pregnant, one week past policy limit.
Why would they have a policy on pregnancy in the first place? Why does however far along a woman is matter whether she can go?

Uh, maybe because she'd be out in the middle of the ocean and possibly days away from adequate medical facilities should she go into labor or have complications?

I think a lot of people don't realize that frontline employees don't have the authority to override corporate policy. They wanted to argue with the staff, but those people aren't going to risk their jobs for her.

Probably a liability thing due to increased risk of injury from falls, weather, etc ... I believe 24 weeks is now considered as viability. Maybe they or another similar company has been sued for injury resulting in death of either mom or baby.

That account is way over sensationalized as well, probably because this woman's career is "youtuber" so having drama literally pays.

On the heat:

escorted her out into the Miami heat after refusing to let her board

The family waited outside as Jackson's two young children - both under the age of two - turned red faced, suffering sunburn in the Miami heat.
She was going on a cruise in that same tropical heat, and her own video shows them waiting outside by their car for their luggage to be brought out yet they are in the shade and there are many other areas of shade in the background. They couldn't put the family in the air conditioned car? They couldn't have the little ones stand in the shade? Their children suffering sunburn doesn't make any sense.

They are way overplaying the security guards with AR-15s and bullet proof vests thing, that is a US port of entry so security is heavy. If cops there wear bullet proof vests and carry heavier firearms to meet the (potential) demands of their job then that is how it works, and I suspect if she had left instead of arguing she would never even have seen one.

It's also interesting she plays up cops with AR-15s intimidating her and escorting her out yet her video shows them showing up with the AR-15s at a distance then same cop with AR-15 put aside when actually interacting with her and escorting her out. Clearly nobody was in her face with a big gun, and complaining about them wearing bullet proof vests is just silly they aren't going to strip off part of their uniform that has equipment attached based on nature of the call.

A policy is a policy. If they allow her "just that one extra week" and allow her at 25 weeks, then the next one says, well I'm only 26 weeks and so on. It needs a cut off date. I'm on Disney's side.

And LOL @ "YouTuber Emily Jackson". I guess I am a YouTuber too since I uploaded a video once. Her YouTubing job probably isn't paying much so she is trying to get rich quick at Disney's expense.

I'm on Disney's side as well.

This woman brought a letter from her doctor indicating it was safe for her to travel but that does not negate Disney's policy.

People do a lot of research for a cruise. I was just looking into them for a summer trip (decided against it) and I know carriers cut off at 23 or 24 weeks pregnant...and I am not pregnant. I just happened to read it while researching. I'm pretty sure the woman knew the rule...I mean, how would you not look that up if you are spending 5k on a cruise?

This lady is showing her ignorance. Twenty four weeks is earlier than I would have expected as a cut off, but I would have also looked into what I needed to do if I were pregnant. She should have checked into the rules and recommendations first. Anyone who goes through any kind of border checkpoint is going to see armed guards. She messed up. No ones fault, but hers.

When researching, I read that some cruise lines will take a doctors note but to get it cleared first. LOL its funny all that stuck in my head considering I am not cruising or expecting. Seems like if you were cruising and expecting then you would actually pay attention, no?

Could she have just lied and said "I am 22 weeks" or something?

P.S. I don't think its a safety thing...I think its a cost of having a helicopter meet them out at sea to transport her if something goes wrong.
