I don't know if it says in this link, I had used up my free articles but did a google search. Apparently, the pepperoni was a gift for a bunch of his Navy buddies who had asked him to bring some from a popular local shop in Nova Scotia. He decided to bring a whole suitcase full so there would be plenty to go around.

They dont really have anonymity, as ID and a credit card is required for incidentals (smoking, damages, hotel room trashed.) Unless they are in a "no-tell" Motel that takes cash only.

One place I worked an idiot smoked in a non smoking room, checked out leaving a cigarette smoldering in an ashtray on the BED. Room caught fire, causing a kings ransom in damages. Luckily no injuries and the FD stoped it quickly. The reenactment of the birds by Hitchcock was tame in comparison. They knew exactly who had stayed in the room.

People can go nutty on vacation sometimes. Pent up stress/life issues; Its like the film the Purge, but with drunkenness, poop, fights with hookers etc.

OMG I laughed out loud when I was reading this a couple of weeks ago in the NYT as if it were a particularly good passage from a David Sedarius book! My SO thought I had temporarily lost my mind but appreciated it as much as I did when I handed it over to him. The story is great enough but the writing was sublime. Enough so that I looked up the original by-line reporter.

She is an obviously well regarded reporter/writer who just happened to have another, almost equally week written article either that same day or nearly so. It just goes to show the power of good storytelling.
