What's even scarier is all the people who've decided the judge is a nutcase without knowing all the facts.
Nah.
The reactionaries who automatically side with the person in authority who uses their position to browbeat an innocent* citizen ... just 'cause they can?
Those are the scary individuals.
* - Yes, I know, I know, such people only like the Constitutional concept of innocent-until-proven-guilty when it applies to people they like. Nonetheless, it applies in this case as well.
I am a retired attorney, over 40 years. You cannot tell from the limited video all that transpired up to the judge's remonstrations. Even the most even tempered judges will become exasperated with parties or attorneys whose behavior provoke such responses. Taken as what is shown, this judge's verbiage does not even come close to brutal or terrible behavior, berating or denigration.
Unfortunately, in our modern world, news writers have become too often prone to seeking attention by using sensationalistic headlines to gain attention. This is such a case.

Wow...you think this judge wasn't acting sick or twisted and way out of line? Limited video? She would ask a question and then yell at the woman for answering it. How on earth can that be even in a mile of normal or professional. The woman tried to express she was ill and got yelled at. That judge is off her rocker and was not treating the defendant with the dignity that any human deserves...
I completely disagree. The judge is in charge of her courtroom. I've seen judges question why someone was in their courtroom to begin with, because the charges seem absurd. I've never ever seen a judge behave this way, even to someone who eventually had to be escorted out for contempt of court because they were out of control.
The blame is on the judge - who knows how often she acted as bizarrely as she did in that case.
Some judges go power crazy.
It was nothing like this case, but one day I was sitting in juvenile court (I was a school principal), and all of sudden the judge notices me sitting there quietly. He started yelling at me (and I do mean yelling): "Who are you? What are you doing in this courtroom..." It was a hissy fit. When he finally ran down I said, "I got this subpoena" and held it up. It was just bizaro.
LOL!
Mr. Ryu is right, The Judge is most likely frustrated from all she hears, and the ignorance she deals with day after day. She just seems bitter and angry, but I might be sick of the same ol' thing day after day in court....
I am sorry this lady passed away.
