They have bears based on the Disney Princesses, but they also have licensing deals with many other companies such as Hasbro, MLB, DreamWorks, and Nintendo. It's no different then any other store that sells items from different brands. This promotion had nothing to do with Disney.
This was a failed attempt to save face by the poster's misunderstanding that build-a-bear was owned by Disney. A bad attempt at that. Some people are just never wrong.
Yes, and its nothing like the media wants you to believe. I worked retail on Black Friday, and also go shopping almost every Black Friday. Its no different then any other day, except for being a little busier,
I think that's a result of where you live. The frenzy you see on TV is going to be extreme because that's what sells, but there are plenty of locations where things tend to get wild and rowdy on black friday. I haven't personally seen fights, but I have seen some pretty bad behavior, including people taking things from other peoples carts when they weren't paying attention, lots of shoving and pushing to be first in when the doors open, shelves wiped in minutes, etc.
I mean, I feel like this was to be expected. People going should have known it would be a mad house lol You’d have to pay ME a lot of money to put up with that. I know someone that took her 10 month old.. which just seemed weird to because he won’t remember it? Ended up getting the coupon and going back the next day instead. But she knew it would be insane
There must be a lot of publicity behind these products and events. In earlier generations, there were popular toys, but there weren't these mob phenomena. Local toy stores generally managed to keep items in supply. The neighborhood toy stores didn't do big advertising campaigns based on 1 item. But there was also a smaller population in urban areas back then.
It was pay your age for the bear. A Yahoo poster suggested it should have been pay your weight and said that would have thinned the crowds out a lot.

That's hilarious! I can just picture a scale placed inside the store where people are weighed and then customers saying nevermind and turning around and walking out.
Exactly. My post that you quoted was a response to your earlier reference to Cabbage Patch dolls, did you see that? Those were the toy that kicked off the mob toy marketing strategy, whatever it was. Prior to that, toy sales proceeded pretty calmly, pretty much. Those Cabbage Patch dolls were pretty ugly, too. It must have been some doozy of an advertising campaign to motivate kids to want them.
I understand that it's difficult to tell your kid there's been a change of plans, but there is no way in hell I'd wait in a line like that. We can come back the next day. What's the actual price difference once you use the coupon you'd get anyway? Less than $20?
We had a neighbor that waited 6 hours! It's funny because they moved to a new house in the neighborhood 3+ months ago and the house is still a wreck. We just figured she's using every excuse at this point to not have to clean the house. lol.
Seeing things like this make me very weary about what's going to happen when there's an actual emergency and shortage of items that actually matter!
