This is outrageous.

"The judge wrote it would be the first instance in which a plaintiff asked for the Trafficking Victims Protections Act to be applied to conduct like that alleged in the lawsuit."

He is appealing.

Of course he's appealing.
Prosecutorial overcharge....
"Unrelated charges used for purpose of plea bargaining" .

It's appalling that a judge would even allow this to proceed.

This guy has always looked like the textbook definition of a pervy creep, and it turned out to be true. He deserves everything he gets.

Whether right or wrong it is common. Weinstein can afford the best representation. He's not losing sleep over it.

Not according to the article.

"The judge wrote it would be the first instance in which a plaintiff asked for the Trafficking Victims Protections Act to be applied to conduct like that alleged in the lawsuit."

I'm not worried about Weinstein. I'm concerned about the precedent this sets for others.

Noble claims he "coerced her with talk of a potential movie role for her". That is not coercion. It's persuasion. This suggests that all the other people who actually engaged in consensual sex for a movie role, or some other benefit, were also sexually assaulted or trafficked.

I was speaking to prosecutorial overcharges in general, not the charges themselves.

Why women who consented to sex in exchange for a possible movie roll felt the need to come forward like they were assaulted, beyond me.

Hmm....May not be an overcharge by prosecution.

Commercial Sex Act Law and Legal Definition. ... Trafficking Victims Protection, the term commercial sex act means “any sex act on account of which anything of value is given to or received by any person.”

What is the Trafficking Victims Protection Act?
www.govtrack.uswww.govtrack.us
[i]The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000 as amended, is arguably the most important anti-trafficking law ever passed. The TVPA and its subsequent reauthorizations, define a human trafficking victim as a person induced to perform labor or a commercial sex act through force, fraud, or coercion.

The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2013 (TVPRA 2013), which was passed as an amendment to the Violence Against Women Act, establishes and strengthens programs to ensure that U.S. citizens do not purchase products made by victims of human trafficking, and to prevent child marriage.

A typical sex trafficking case is someone who lures underage girls on the promise of a green card and locking them up in a basement and forcing them to have sex for money," Kupferstein said in a statement at the time.https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn...ing/index.html
