I'm sure it has nothing to do with any desire to earn a living by doing something you're passionately interested in.

There are a few airlines like Lufthansa that have programs to identify MDs willing to volunteer their services on flights in case of medical emergency while in the air. In return, they get a few extra frequent flyer miles and a chance to feel like they've done the good deed.

This woman is not a MD.

She seems inspired by the teacher who was offended at being called "madam".
But at least she chose an airline as her adversary, not a 10 year old.

I really, really, really want to be a Viscountess. Perhaps my Belgian relatives can figure something out, lol.

I have a PhD and have trouble asking people to call me "Dr." *within* the classroom, precisely because I don't want to associate myself with hoity-toity people like this. I finally resolved to require it only in the classroom because I'm a 5'2 female who just turned 40, and have been teaching in a university or grad school setting since I was 27. People just don't take you seriously with stats like that.

But apart from that, gah, get over yourself. I have a theory that it's the people that are most deeply insecure that behave this way. But this lady may just be a snob.

I know a guy -actually we were in school together for all of elementary, middle school and most of high school- who signs his personal emails "John Doe, PhD". I can understand displaying the title in a professional setting, but in personal emails?? I also have a doctorate and don't even put the title in my work correspondence.

Before everything on social media was considered "news" by those who read the tabloids, she probably would have simply gotten over herself pretty quickly.
