I get the feeling that the Angel Tree children that people buy for are usually in greater need than this man and his family.

It seems that this is a one-time situation. I really think he should have taken it as an opportunity for his family to have an alternative Christmas this year. They could have made gifts for each other. He could have challenged them to come up with ways to celebrate that don't involve gifts.

It's not like this is a long-term problem, so why not take a different approach for one year? The kids might have even looked back and realized they managed to be happy anyway. And that would have been a good thing to learn.

+1.

Christmas is the SAME day, EVERY year.

Plan ahead instead of having yet another kid you can't afford.

Who cares what he has it for, GoFundMe has a multitude of different campaigns one can make for whatever reason. they like. It doesn't matter if you think it's important or not, as it must be very important for them, to even toy with the idea. People always passing unneeded judgement on what somebody else thinks the world of. Then there's people who'll donate to somebody like the Cashme girl who'll just blow the money frivelously and probably doesn't deserve it, while those who really need it, and possibly just a fraction of the 40k or so raised for the Cashme girl, don't get help. I know somebody that needs a mastectemy, and has had no donors. It's important to them, they tried to save up the money themselves and at some poimt had no choice but to spend what they had saved. I think that is more important than investing in to Cashmes rap video.

Hell... I have one. I made it out of desperation because it's a situation I am not able to handle myself nomatter how hard I try. I mulled it over for three months before giving in and making one. Nah, it's not a scam, I'm not that shady. I'm trying. to foot most of the bill and do most of the footwork, not just sit on my ass, while money comes flowing in. It's purely in dire need of help and asistance.

Exactly. I would donate condoms & other assorted birth control. Just like what's going on at my Safeway right now. They are being seriously aggressive over the loudspeaker right now, pressuring people to donate to feed "needy families" for Giftmas. I was laid off from my job unexpectedly a few weeks ago and am STILL waiting for my first unenjoyment check.

But since I have no children, apparently myself, and my elderly mother who lives with me can just go and get screwed. I didn't choose to get laid off, in fact, I was completely blindsided and am still reeling from not only the loss of a job, but people I thought were FAMILY. My families holiday has been completely ruined, but I have to listen to your guilt trips at me while I'm trying to read prices and labels trying to stretch what little money I have left.

No. He chose to have all those children when he couldn't afford them. In my book having 5 children, and even ONE in this day and age, is a LUXURY. Again, I'd donate birth control.

There are a pile of charities that give Christmas presents to needy children. At work, we've supported a couple of those charities, buying gifts that would later get distributed to needy families.

I don't think it's quite fair to say "If he raised his kids right, they'll understand." Well...they're children. I doubt they'll completely understand until they're older. I don't know about everyone else, but I'd MUCH MUCH rather know that a child got a Christmas present, than I get a Christmas present.

I've got no problem with the GoFundMe account. I'm not going to contribute to it, I've got enough going on this Christmas...but people will give to what they want to give, and it's absolutely no skin off my nose.

Well at least he is being honest unlike the 3 that concocted the story about the woman running out of gas and the homeless vet giving her his last $20.

Several years ago my wife and I went to Las Vegas and walked up and down the strip where we saw lots of homeless people with signs begging for handouts. The one I remember the most was a guy that had a sign that read "need money for weed". He was honest and it paid off as I saw many young men bypass other homeless people to give this guy money to buy his pot.

But we don't know that his kids got Christmas presents. We do know that he was given cash.

And if that's an important consideration for some folks, so be it. As far as I'm concerned, he can ask. People can choose.

It doesn't hurt me. It might help the kids, it might not. If he spends the cash on himself, the kids are no worse off than they were before. But...he'll PROBABLY spend it on the kids like he said he would, and they get a Christmas.

No one needs 5 kids, especially when one can't afford them. I wouldn't give him a penny. I am also sick of GoFundMe in general, everyone seems to have jumped on the bandwagon and it's turned into a mockery.
