Janitor material now needs a community college degree to get a job'. Such degrees are watered down to match the capability if the candidates. When half the people have degrees, below-average people will have them.

I read Papillon. One of the islands is stuffed full of Québécois felons.

apparently this happens to other people too?

We need to change Mexico to Old Mexico so people know that people from New Mexico are not Mexicans
What really made me facepalm about that story is that the SUPERVISOR had to google New Mexico to make sure. How on earth do people this dumb manage to function?

Not only is the clerk an idiot but the supervisor did it too. That is insane.

No way. If we do that, it'll confuse people more, thinking old Mexico is one of the States. It's bad enough we call the USA, America when America is actually a continent.

Mexico is a country. New Mexico is a state.

What about New York, New Hampshire, and New Jersey...

The BEST idea is bring geography back in to schools.

Aren't all school children required to memorize the fifty states and their capitols?

When you have to put USA on your state license plate (like New Mexico does) you know what the level of intelligence is for the average American!

Like the late, great George Carlin once said, "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

It’s truly amazing how ignorant Americans can be. Being from West Virginia, when I go out of state (and not to states that border WV) people will frequently think I’m from the western part of Virginia. They have no idea that West Virginia is its own state.

It gets extremely frustrating, so I sympathize with the people of New Mexico.

I once worked with a girl who thought Kansas was an abbreviation for Arkansas.

New Mexico is a state. I would argue that the name of the territory/state should have been changed in 1912 when statehood was achieved so as to prevent incidents like these.

Oh, HELL no. The basics like that are toast these days. Having to memorize state capitols "stifle" a child's creativity, don't ya know? <snort>
