Yep, and we'll call UK to tell them their main component is now Old England, and they have cities called Old York. That island off the coast will be renamed Old Jersey. France needs to get moving on renaming Orléans.

Etc.

Yes, similar things happen to a lot of other people. Mail gets returned to out-of-state senders, because it doesn't have international postage on it, or with a note saying "not in the US" or something, and other strange things happen.

The state motto is:New Mexico.....not exactly new,not really Mexico.

When I returned from a vacation once my roommate asked me if I needed a passport to drive through New Mexico to get to Arizona....yes he was serious.

In the 80s. NM started putting "New Mexico USA" on their license plates, because when they were out of state, they were thought of as foreigners. America does educate their children, but it doesn't stick.

I lived in New Mexico for four years. Ignorance like this happens fairly frequently. The New Mexico magazine has a section called "One of our fifty is missing." People can send in their stories to be printed in the magazine.

We had our own incident when we tried to book a hotel over the phone in a town about an hour away from Santa Fe. That operator couldn't book international lodging. We gave up on explaing so we laughed it off and drove on in to Santa Fe.

Another time after we had moved to another state, we were talking to someone, they wanted to know about the poverty and the people living in stick houses. Hmm.... there are poor people there.I never saw living conditions like I did in Mexico.

I had a licence plate like that. I loved it. I think New Mexico had the prettiest plates.
