But that's not "friendly." People might, you know, go somewhere every barista knows their name.

"Chang" isn't much different than "n****r" to many people. It's disrespectful. There's no explanation for how that happened other than an employee who should immediately become an ex-employee.
Assuming the last customer wasn't named Chang or some other screw up.

Also would be funny if the barrista was chinese.

Accusations of racism are extremely serious. They can stick with people on the interwebs for a lifetime.

Sooo, when we don't know what exactly happened I think everyone should put down their torches and pitchforks and stop looking for a sturdy rope and a tall tree.

Was it the barista who created the receipt?

I'm sorry that service people hate their jobs so much but taking out their frustrations on customers won't solve anything. At the end of the day they'll still be slinging coffee across the counter.

"Chang" is a common Asian name. It's mostly used as a last name, though I do know one who uses it as his first name. I believe you're thinking of another "Ch-n-" word that is indeed offensive to Asian people.

" “So, I double checked my Starbucks app. It says my name. "
Sounds like stereotyping to me. Starbucks should be ashamed.

Why did you post this? So you and your time wasting white supremacy dudes can bond? It is lame.

yes, the guy was named John and he double checked from his end and he had written John.

I am just disgusted by this type thing happening over and over and the commenters here trying to excuse it. I am embarrassed to be a white person who may be mistaken for some of these ignorant slobs on here.

Seriously? Starbucks is FAMOUS for messing up people's names! There are hilarious articles out there with examples; this is just one:

He didn't order through the app, he ordered at the register. He payed with a gift card through the Starbucks app, but still gave his name to the cashier verbally.

When the barista asked for his name, Festejo said, "I said, 'My name is John.'"

His full name, Johncarl, was also clearly displayed on the app he used to pay for his order.

However, the barista chose a different name for him.
