Recorded voice- “Hello, this is Brandy. Im a trip advisor..” or “you recently inquired about a mortgage..” or “your warrenty is about to expire..” etc. etc.
I stay on the line hoping to get an actual person so I can tell them what I think, but the line always goes dead. So, whats the scam? They always disconnect after short intro.
Spammers use predictive dialers they make hundreds of call at a time, Since only a small percent get answered, or don't get hung up on with a few seconds, they have only only a few people behind the dialer who take the calls,
If there Passthru rate is higher then expected, there is no human available to take the call to scam you. It hangs up on you. It notes your number in its database and will call you back to attempt the scam again, and sell you number to others as they got a "Live one"
Now they know that your phone number is active, so they can target it with more telemarketing.

they probably appreciate the conversation and posted your number on the Telmarketer Virtual Bulletin Board under the heading "For a good time call..."
Three tips I learned: never say hello or hi. Do not state your name...and lastly....talk in an obscure foreign language. If for nothing else.. you get to hear how funny you sound. I'm pretty sure I made up a new foreign language ...even my dog looked impressed as I rattled on.
My friends bought a thing on QVC that connects to their phone. If a junk call happens, they hit a red button and it blocks any further calls. My phones are old, so it’s labor intensive to block calls and I can only block 30.
