The University is only about 45 minutes from my house. However the suspect was from China and probably speaks more about a system that does not allow for failure. It is interesting and I hope we hear more about this in the future.
all I could think about when I read the title of this thread was what the heck is wrong with people these days ? Gosh yes it should be classified as a hate crime they might even up the charges to attempted murder because it was poison . who knows but wow just wow . Cant be safe anywhere these days not even college . Shame .

In this case we do not know the motivation; it could have been jealousy? Whatever the motivation is - this crime should be attempted murder; we do not even know all the chemicals he fed his roommate over time. We also do not know if the prolonged effects of those unknown chemicals could, eventually, lead to his roommate's death. Here is the MSDS sheet for Thallium: Thallium. Somebody with any knowledge of chemistry clearly knew the dangers to another human and thus this was premeditated.
Using that trendy catchphrase should also be a crime. Attempted butchery of the English language. if you have a room mate, NEVER say that around them, especially if they are a chemistry major. You never know what will set someone off. People are pretty unstable these days it seems.
