Why? Eyes and Necks are standard equipment on humans. Why not use them?

Too bad Brains are an option.

Because that takes physical effort, and it's easier to put the responsibility onto technology. Too bad when that technology isn't good enough, or fails altogether.

This is why I back into every parking space, without exception - unless it's one of those damned angled spaces.

The technology is great, as long as it's treated as an enhancement, not a replacement.

In any case, what a sad thing, for everyone involved.

The story literally made my heart ache. At 66 they could have been married for 40 to 45 years.

Very simple and understandable accident.
Could have been any number of reasons, and when stuff like this happens it happens very fast.

@ age 66 he might not have been able to see / turn his head and was used to using mirrors. (I catch myself doing that a lot, since my semi truck has no view to rear EXCEPT via mirrors)

Even when driving a car with back-up camera (rare since my daily driver is 46 yrs old)... I seldom remember to look at it.

Could definitely happen to me...

I had an 80 YO friend who's wife got out to help push from the snow, He got unstuck and drove home and didn't realize he had forgot to bring her along! >>Oops<<

Judging without all the facts, Mr. Mike.
Where I come from, "maybe" is just a way to judge, without appearing to do so.

I have a car with a backup camera.
I rarely look at it.

I don't think it would have guaranteed her safety.

Because xray vision isn't standard for humans yet. We cant see through our vehicles, and the vast majority of vehicles have significant blind spots.
