Carvana really needs a heavy fine, and/or their licenses revoked. There is no excuse for selling a stolen car in these times when computer systems can tell how many previous owners of a car, who they were and when the oil was last changed. And it wasn't like this case was complicated or anything; the VIN numbers didn't even match up!!!

From what I can tell, they offered him a refund, plus $1000 for his trouble, but he wants $1 million. That sounds like a shakedown to me.
As for the company, something seems to be going majorly wrong for them in the last 2 years.
If you read the article he does not just want his money back, he is suing to make sure they put an additional check in place. He has a valid point, some other customer may find themself in jail in rural Georgia for no reason,

Quote:
Scott's attorney sent Carvana a letter with his demands, which were $1 million dollars in compensation for losses, both financially and reputationally, and a public apology.

Isn't Carvana about to go under?
Weren't they involved in the car that was sold that Hertz picked up as one of their stolen vehicles? Oh.. No.. That was Facebook Marketplace. About as bad.
Honestly, with the problems with Carvana.. people not being able to register vehicles and so on.. Why would anyone consider buying from them now? Zero chance i'd give them my business.
I never meant to imply he was not seeking damages, and I hope he gets his million as nobody should have to go through this. But again from the article:
But Scott is demanding the company put better security checks in place to make sure it doesn't happen to another customer.
'I know they say they have 150-point inspections. I want them to have 151. Check to see if the vehicle is stolen,' he said.
'The last thing I want anybody to do is to get caught late at night on some strange road in the backcountry and they can’t verify it and they look at that person as a criminal.'
