I never give to any of these people begging on the street with signs.

Police in New Jersey are hoping that people will think twice about giving money to panhandlers on the side of the road by sharing a social media post warning that they may be trying to scam others.

Union Township Police approached a woman walking in and out of traffic on a busy street with a sign that read, I have 1 baby please in the name of God help me to buy baby stuff and diapers. The sign also featured a photo of a young child. According to the police department post on Facebook, the woman claimed to be from Romania and living in Queens.

Apparently a bunch of out of staters were dropped off to panhandle in NJ, including this one. So nice of them to do, thanks. I'm glad people got suspicious of her.

Why would they bring her from Queens to Union NJ? Wonder where the others were dropped off. Wish I could tell where in Union she was, almost looked like Route 22

I dont think this concerns police and they should not be making comments about it.

Its up to individuals if they want to give money to someone asking for it, I do not need someone else (especially police) telling me who deserves it and who does not...thats up to me to decide.

If police want to warn me of scams, they should be instructing people to avoid local banks, payday loan places, buy here pay here car lots, etc etc too!!

Did police even ask her where her baby was? They DID notice she didn't have a baby with her, right?

I'm telling you, people, it's an EPIDEMIC of opioid proportions! Women forgetting their babies EVERYWHERE!

Guilt for having a nice life.

DH calls it "buying indulgences."

I have never given money to a panhandler. I don't feel guilty about having a nice life. I have, however, turned several of them who were soliciting for fake charities over to police.

No clue. Many are scammers and some are dangerous. The police and homeless advocates will tell you if you really want to help the homeless, donate (money, time, toiletries etc.) to a homeless shelter or other organization that helps them.

I would agree with you, but then we would both be wrong.

I don't feel guilty for having a nice life either. I work hard and earned my place in life.

If these panhandlers want that kind of life for themselves, they can do it. They just don't want to.

I don't have any sympathy for ppl who refuse to better their own situations
