Im not sure that would even dry the dirt out, there may be a blackened layer that is semi dry, but, that would probably be messier than playing in mud!

In the first week of July, 1980, on the night before a series opener against the Red Sox, somebody sneaked into Memorial Stadium and burned "SOX SUX" into the grass with some flammable liquid.
