Loaded gun in a baby diaper? About the least offensive thing I came across while raising my kid.

Man, those 'Green Beans'...

At least the child wasn't killed seems like most of the time in these situation a child gets killed by irresponsible gun owner. My guess is he didn't realize the gun had a round in the chamber, or he had very little training on safe handling.

Actually, this was explained in the current Darwin winner thread, but a person having a child is not excluded from becoming a Darwin winner.

I understand why people still think this, but one can still be a Darwin winner after having a kid (or two or three).

This doesn't make sense to me.

"After the gun went off, the bullet traveled through Smith's leg and then the child's leg before lodging in the man's chest, Evans said."

I couldn't picture it either.

The diaper bag was apparently on the floor of the car. If the gun was in the bag, pointed upward, the bullet could have gone through his leg and into his chest. If the baby was on his lap, it is likely that is how she was injured.
I don't see any problem with the description of events.

I mean... If it was loaded, in a diaper bag, and he was reaching for things in there without paying attention, it's not hard to believe that something could have hit the trigger... I'm not sure why there "must be more to the story." Sounds like an accident caused by a VERY stupid decision, and nothing more.

Who, exactly, did this man intend to kill?
What indicated he intended to kill anyone?

It read to me that he was just stupid in how he carried and handled the weapon. Not quite to the level of Darwin awards in my mind, but clearly not well thought out.
