Teen killed by falling rocks in Glacier National Park

Really sad and surreal. That and the recent wolf attack on the poor family at Banff just to the north. You can never second guess Mother Nature.

So?

Even though it's rare, it's still horrible when someone dies. You don't expect your teenager to be killed while on a family vacation, no matter where you are.

I once watched one happen on the Northeast extension of the PA Turnpike, Interstate 476. It wasn't spectacular, and didn't happen all at once.

I'd had to pull over because of torrential rain. There was no way that I was going to sit next to a rock wall. I inched forward until I was away from it. About a minute later a waterfall launched off of the top of the cliff and rocks started falling. A small car was swept across the road and saved from dropping into a ravine by a guard rail.

Bonus points for having a kid in the back seat screaming, "Mommy, stop moving the car!"

I feel terribly sad for that family. They wanted their child to see, learn, and experience things... and they got that for their effort.
