Something is hard to understand so there's "simply no point" in trying to understand it? Are you serious?

Just because we don't know the murderer's motivation doesn't mean there wasn't any.

Let's say the mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in the recent past, thus the trip to Europe with her daughter to make memories while she still could. Let's say that on her return she accidentally discovered that her son and daughter had secretly made arrangements to have her institutionalized.

This is all speculation, of course, and wholly fictional. I'm just using it as an example of motivation.
I agree with fluffy. Of course, this is a horrible tragedy, but there is often "more to the story". Sometimes, much more to the story that is not publicly known.

Absolutely serious. There is no reasoning or justification on earth that one could come up with to explain this monstrous act when trying to apply that to a person who isn't having either a psychotic break or demonic possession. It's pointless to speculate.

I would guess she had something against her ex-husband. The children often pay the price. "I will take them with me, so you can't have them" is the thinking of the vengeful suicidal person.

Look up “speculation” and “fiction” in the dictionary.

Narcissism.... I'm going to end it all, and I know you will suffer after I'm gone, so I'll take you with me so you won't feel the pain of losing me.

Or just plain vindictiveness against the ex-husband.

Wow, seems most cases of murder-suicide involving children, the children are very young. Doing it to one's adult children seems even stranger.

After thinking more about this, I think she killed them so they can be together. She obviously loved her children and this was the way for them to be together. It's difficult for most people to see through this logic, but this is how possessive love works.

If she hated her ex-husband very much, she could have killed him but didn't.
