Wasn't there a similar incidence awhile back the only difference it was a guy? Seems a bit crazy to get someone in trouble with this, but if it happens to guys it should equally apply to girls.
You are under the assumption we have a fair and equally applied justice system?
The laws you refer to are serious, but they are serious only to those they are applied to.
Again, When are laws applied consistently and fairly? The legal system is a sort of hybrid combination of professional sport and a political weapon.
There sure are a lot of innocent people here who never experimented with sex as teenagers.
Silly thinking here...
None of us experimenters filmed it and then distributed for posterity . We seemed to regard those personal and intimate relations. Big difference.
If you can't grasp distribution as a criminal act...or the ones who didn't consent to the distribution..then maybe you haven't outgrown the teen mentality..
I'm sure at 50 or 60 ...a person is going golly jeepers sure wish I had those videos to share with family or Co workers...

I never mentioned videos, etc. but some here act like they were the perfect picture of purity during their teenage years.
In many states the age of consent is 16 but you cannot buy them cigarettes nor take naked pics of them until they are 18. Some states have "Romeo" laws where the age of consent can be 14 if the other is 18 or younger.
In the case in MD she was 16, old enough to consent but not old enough to have naked pics of her taken. Maybe the guy that took the video should be punished?
The tricky part is she distributed it herself and she was a minor. A minor distributing minor porn. As I said, tricky.

Sex/porn laws are a complete joke. Just like if you pay somebody for sex, you go to jail. But if you pay somebody (an adult) for sex, film it, and sell the video, you are okay. The government should not be involved in this type of activity. You can't legislate morality. Because every single person has their own morality. But it sure is a great way to fill up our for-profit prisons. Especially with drugs becoming more and more legal.
I consider this bold to be very rude. If you disagree with me, that is fine -- but no reason to be nasty. But, yes, I do believe that sometimes an example must be made of someone even though many other people have done stupid things without consequence.
Also, regarding the young person who committed suicide, I am surprised because I don't think anyone who would post such photos would be so sensitive -- but, again, that is my opinion, and opinions can be wrong, of course.
I did strongly disagree with the idea and I'm sorry if that may have sounded like a personal attack. I was meaning to attack what in my opinion is a bad idea; not the person. I feel very strongly that the US has overused the legal and court system to deal with many issues that should be dealt with in another manner, knowing that the US jails more people than any other country, yet we aren't really the safest country on the planet as a result, and the punishments are often arbitrary and don't fit the crimes (either way too harsh or way too lenient). More details about the circumstances leading to the tragic situation with the young man are below:
I'm eighty-one, and the shift in moral behavior that I have seen in my lifetime has been radical. And it has been radical in several time periods over that time span.
It occurs to me that when this girl is the mother of adolescents that porn selfies and videos will be something that more teenagers than not will be doing.
"Romeo and Juliet" laws would be applied... which varies state to state.
If we go with the idea of gender equality, then the 17-year-old boy she was blowing should also be charged, right?
