More tough sad news, something new, not a shooting.

Terrible situation and nightmare way to go. It'll be interesting to hear cause of the fire.

An explosion of some sort? The O2 tanks maybe? And 5 crew, who were presumably above deck, escaped in a dingy and just left the passengers belowdeck to die with no attempt to suppress the fire?

If it was oxygen it was probably SO hot...it was unimaginable.
And the hatch blocked ... heat flaming in between them and the exit for the passengers.
Becoming engulfed themselves...no standing room!!!!

We don't know they didn't attempt a rescue. We don't know the circumstances. It is very easy to find fault when you don't know what happened.

Horrible.

From latest reports four bodies recovered but 29 still missing.

Five crew members were rescued from the deck of the boat while people were asleep below.

I sure hope they get to the bottom of this.

Quote:
Emergency dispatch audio from the moments after the fire broke out can be heard above. A Coast Guard dispatcher can be heard asking, "Can you get back onboard and unlock the boat?" The crewmember's response cannot be heard. Someone can be heard saying, "I can't breathe" amid heavy static.

I'm hearing this all morning on NPR and lots of unknowns that may never be known, who tried to save others etc. Oxygen tanks onboard the vessel.

Never a good look when the entire crew survives and their paying customers are all dead. I'm sure authorities will take a close look at this operator.

If you look at the article they have a diagram of the sleeping accommodations for guests. They shared a "Bunk room" below decks. Maybe the crew was required to stay on deck; there were no "crew quarters" shown so I don't know for sure. If a massive fire broke out there was no way for the guests to get out quickly. The authorities SHOULD look at what happened but in the end I believe it was a tragic accident.
